Victoria's Big Build
Victoria’s Big Build continues in winter. Major works taking place between May and August 2020 include:
- Building an underground pedestrian connection between Flinders Street Station and the new Town Hall Station to help connect the Metro Tunnel to the existing train network
- Upgrading the Sunbury Line with new signalling and overhead wiring
Major works to remove some of Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested level crossings on the Frankston and Upfield lines will also take place.
Over the next few months, you’ll see early works start on Victoria’s biggest road project, North East Link. Road works ramp up across the state with the demolition of an overpass on the Princes Freeway, Werribee and upgrades to the West Gate Freeway, Monash Freeway and M80 Ring Road.

Safety is our key priority
We are doing our part to help reduce the risk of infection and slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Victorian community.
The health and safety of our workers and the community is our priority as we continue to deliver Victoria’s Big Build, emphasising physical distancing measures in line with current health advice. We have strict measures in place to protect the safety of our construction workforce, including cleaning of shared spaces and touchpoints, provision of personal protective equipment, physical distancing, hygiene and staggered shifts.
Due to current restrictions, Victorians are being asked to only travel if it’s essential, stay home and slow the spread of coronavirus. For those who need to travel, there may be some disruptions that will affect your journey.
Extra cleaning is being carried out on all bus replacement services to keep passengers and staff safe. Commuters are being asked to practice good hand hygiene and maximise the distance between other passengers.
