Metro Tunnel Project

The 6-month Industry Based Learning Program provides students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) and build the knowledge and skills you need during your degree to start your career.

Professional development

All participants in the Industry Based Learning Program will take part in a structured learning and development program. This tailored program is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for effective performance in the workplace and a successful career.

With your manager, you'll develop an Early Career Development Plan, which aims to support your learning through the identification of targets and professionalism actions to work towards during your time in the Industry Based Learning Program.

Who should apply?

We are looking for current University students who have a genuine interest in kick-starting their career in the major transport and infrastructure industry as well as in their chosen discipline.

Candidates need to demonstrate they have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and are someone who enjoys meeting new people and building working relationships.

If you consider yourself to have a can-do attitude and thrive in ambiguous and challenging situations, this is the role for you!

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, you must be completing a tertiary qualification in a relevant field at the time of applying. You must be enrolled in your degree throughout the duration of the Industry Based Learning Program, however must defer your studies. You must hold working rights in Australia that allow you to work full time (38hrs/wk).

Internship disciplines

Degree: Engineering (Civil), Construction Management

You’ll be exposed to all aspects of our projects, including planning, design, risk mitigation, system safety, cost control, delivery and commissioning. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside trained professionals while gaining exposure in your chosen field of engineering and participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Procurement, Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business Logistics, or a related discipline

During your time with Metro Tunnel Project, you'll be involved in a wide range of commercial / procurement activities, such as contract support and negotiations, preparation and review of documentation while supporting project teams. You'll liaise with key stakeholders on procurement related issues, bid evaluations, analyse the assessment of claims under the Project Agreement and provide transaction management support to stakeholders. You'll have the opportunity to deliver your own projects and improve processes and systems where possible. You'll participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Creative/Professional Writing, Media, Public Relations, Digital Advertising/Marketing, Journalism, Social Media, Communications, Digital Media Design

Working within a specific communications team (Digital, Stakeholder Government Relations) depending on your interests and studies, you'll be involved in a wide wide range of online and non-electronic communications activities, such as creating high-quality online content for social media and other communications channels, analysing social media trends and assisting project teams with establishing creative ideas for online campaigns. You’ll also participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Engineering (Electrical)

You’ll have the opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of our projects, including planning, design, risk mitigation, system safety, cost control, delivery and commissioning. You'll be exposed to electrical engineers, gaining exposure in your chosen field of engineering and beyond. You'll participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Bachelor of Business (Accounting / Finance), Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Finance

During your time with our Finance & Administration team, you'll be working alongside a team of Finance & Administration professionals. In this role you'll be supporting financial forecasting, reporting activities and management accounting functions. You'll also assist with the development of finance initiatives across various project teams and internal support groups, developing your industry knowledge in the process. You'll play a key role in the administration of the financial control environment and have opportunities to make recommendations on improving processes and systems where possible. You'll participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Human Resources, Business (HR)

You’ll be working alongside a HR Advisor and team of professionals while getting involved in a wide range of HR activities supporting both our project teams and internal support groups including working on recruitment campaigns, early career programs and providing HR advice to internal and external stakeholders. You’ll also participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Networking, Web Development

MTP is looking for students with interests in Document Control, Information Cyber Security, Application Support and Information Systems to join our IT team! During your time with our team, you'll be working alongside a team of professionals, and get involved in many IT activities including working with our project's IT specialists. You'll also assist with the development of IT activities across the broad spectrum of areas to develop your industry knowledge and also participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Urban and Regional Planning/Design, Ecology and Environmental Management, Land/Property Surveying, Environmental Engineering, Geographical Science or related discipline

During your time with our Land, Planning and Environment team, you'll be working alongside a Planning and Environmental Manager and a team of professionals. You'll be getting involved in a wide range of activities supporting project teams and internal support groups. You'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the planning, urban design and environmental guidance of various initiatives during your time with MTP. You may also have the opportunity to deliver your own projects and improve processes and systems where possible. You'll participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Law, Business (Law)

You’ll be working alongside a Legal manager and team of professionals while getting involved in a range of legal activities, such as researching and drafting reports, in order to support project teams and internal support groups. You’ll research and draft responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, ensuring quality of information is produced at an appropriate standard. Additionally, you'll assist your team with ensuring legal documents are stored in accordance with statutory requirements and open to audit at any time while also participating in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.

Degree: Engineering (Mechatronics)

You’ll have the opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of our projects, including planning, design, risk mitigation, system safety, cost control, delivery and commissioning. You'll be exposed to mechatronics and signalling engineers, gaining exposure in your chosen field of engineering and beyond. You'll participate in tailored learning sessions to further develop your personal and professional skills.
